I heart marine art!

I just love hearing the stories of where my marine artworks travel to to find their new homes, whether that be to someone’s office, a kids room or hanging up in people’s homes locally or around the world. These are the latest watercolour sea creatures to be sold! Seeing the looks on people’s faces when they receive my marine artworks as gifts is probably one of the most rewarding experiences you can have as an artist. A great example is the glee shown here from Miss Kubi, a CCRES colleague in the Philippines, with her painted Pistol Shrimp (aka. the loudest shrimp in the sea). I’m hoping to start incorporating some of my artwork techniques into my graphic recording with people as well as using it in my series of kids picture books about the wonders under the sea! So stay tuned for more here soon! You can ‘sea’ more of my marine artworks in my gallery here https://drsuepillans.com/artworks/gallery/ and you can follow my creative journey as Dr Suzie Starfish on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/drsuziestarfish/) and @suepillans on Twitter and Instagram.

Our future on World Oceans Day!!

Today we celebrate World Oceans Day and I can’t think of a better way to showcase the wonders of our Blue Planet than through the eyes of our children, the future of our Oceans! My alter ego Dr Suzie Starfish (http://www.facebook.com/drsuziestarfish) was recently invited to visit with the Grade 3-4s of Exmouth District High School in Western Australia to talk about the Ningaloo Outlook project, on behalf of CSIRO and BHP Billiton. And what an amazing visit it was using creative science to talk about turtle and whale shark tagging followed by some ‘Shark Art’!! Thank you for having me Exmouth DHS, I just can’t wait to come back again next year!

Animate me!

So here is what I do in animated words and pictures!! Through simple animations such as this words and pictures are brought to life. Animations can also help people, groups and organisations to tell their stories in a fun and visual way. I just love being able to create such different visual products for people, including myself!! I’m excited to announce that I’m part of a creative collaboration which was recently selected to display our SeaLIFE artworks in the “Outside In” Art exhibition at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital in Brisbane. SeaLIFE aims to provide patients and their families with a connection from the hospital to the outside underwater world. You can also view my current Art for sale.

Seadragons and Seahorses – SOLD!

My sea creature paintings “Leafy as a Seadragon” and the “Little Red Seahorse” have recently sold at Cafe Jilarty at Rainbow Beach! This was my first attempt at using very different mediums on canvas to create these serene sea creatures. And, I’m so thrilled that the little red seahorse is now making its way to the USA as a gift!
